College redevelopment
In order to enhance the learning experience whilst at the College, and give the students the best chance to thrive and develop their talents, the College has developed ambitious plans for an extensive redevelopment of its main campus in Fraserburgh.
This is an exciting scheme for us, a refurbished college presents many more opportunities for our students and supports our plans for the future. We are looking forward to turning our vision for a modern, well-resourced learning facility, into a reality which will provide the best fit-for-purpose learning and social environment our students of the future deserve. The College is also becoming more and more popular with students from outside the UK and this project will help us to be able to offer a more competitive package.
The existing building was constructed in 1973 and has been extended and modified in line with a steady growth in student numbers and curriculum development since then.
The project, which is due to commence in 2010, will see the demolition of large sections of the main campus building in Fraserburgh and the construction of a large, central atrium providing more modern learning and social space for students. As well as new canteen facilities there will be increased flexible working areas for private study. The classrooms and work areas will be upgraded and the exterior of the building is to be refreshed and modernised.
The project is predominantly supported by the Scottish Funding Council although other funding streams are currently being explored. The College has appointed a team to Co-ordinate the project and they will be working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the project delivers value for the students.
Banff and Buchan College’s redevelopment plan is due for completion in 2012.
